Slavery started in America in 1619 when a dutch ship came to America with twenty slaves. They traded them for tobacco. slaves started to become more popular with time and soon became essential for most of the main crops that southerners grew. these crops included, tobacco, cotton, corn, and many others. slaves were brought to America via the middle passage. the middle passage was a route from Africa to America. slaves would be bound and crammed into ships for weeks or sometimes even months. slaves traveling on this route only had a fifty percent mortality rate. that means you have a fifty-fifty chance of living. slaves would be treated very badly and sometimes even be treated like nothing more than dogs. When Abraham Lincoln became the thirteenth president he did not think that any slave should be treated badly and issued the emancipation proclamation. the emancipation proclamation consisted of two parts. the first part said that all slaves would be freed and have equal rights. a lot of Americans thought that this was unfair and would not release their slaves. so Abraham Lincoln issued the second part, it sid that ten specific states hadto release slaves. the topic of slavery started one of America's biggest wars ever. this war was called the civil war because they fought over the civility of black slaves. slaves at this time were under heavy segregation and could not use many things that white people did, these things included bathrooms, water fountains, and schools. slavery was finally ended under the emancipation proclamation
all in all I do not think that slavery should have ever been aloud under the constitution and was a very horrible part of our history.
